NOVICE WIN FOR JIMMY BARCOE

Jimmy Barcoe ran the race of his life to win the Kilkenny Novice cross country championship held in Kilmacow on 14th November.  Jimmy was in the leading group from the start and with 2000mts to go he broke away for a very convincing win and with great support from Shane Noonan in 6th Mick Walsh 12th and newcomer Simon Maher 20th the team won the bronze medals. In the Womens Novice Deirdre Phelan ran a great race to finish 4th and with great support from Martina Prendergast 6th and Maria Whelan 7th the team won the silver medals.
In the ‘B’ juvenile races Sarah O’Donnell was an impressive winner of the Gu8 race and Rose Prendergast was 7th.  In the Bu8 Felix Lysaght was an excellent 2nd Brogan McAviney was 3rd and Patrick Langton 8th. In the Bu12 David O’Carroll ran a great race to finish 2nd and led the team to bronze medals with Sean Grace 13th Cormac Nolan 15th Jamie Hogan 16th and James O’Neill 18th. Andy O’Donnell just missed out by finishing 4th in the Bu10 race and David Holland was 13th. Good performances were put in by Kate Drennan 4th and Grace O’Donnell 6th in Gu12.  Aoife Naddy 7th and Aoife O’Carroll 8th in Gu14.  Tommy Bric 5th and Marcus Hogan 6th in Bu14. Sarah O’Neill, Lisa Prendergast and Laura Langton in Gu10.

BIG WIN FOR TOMMY EVANS

Tommy Evans had a marvellous win in the Dunleer Open Cross-Country held in Dunleer, Co. Louth on Sunday 14th November.

LEINSTER GOLD FOR RUTH KENNEDY AND NIALL SHEEHAN

Ruth Kennedy and Niall Sheehan turned in two brilliant performances at the Leinster Cross Country Championships in Adamstown Co Wexford on Sunday 7th November.  Ruth competing in the first race of the day the Gu11 C.Ship was in the leading group from the start and took the lead around half way of the 1500m race and, although strongly challenged, she sprinted away in the final 200m to win the gold medal. Niall Sheehan was the second individual winner for the club in winning the gold medal in the Mens Intermediate race.  Niall who returned home from Scotland for the race was always at the front and surged away around half way of the 10km race to run out a very convincing winner.
Also in brilliant form was Mary Ellen Doyle who ran an excellent race to win the silver medal in the Gu17 race and led the Kilkenny Team to the gold medals , also winning gold was Rose Kennedy who produced a big finish to finish in 15th place.  Rebecca Kennedy also turned in a brilliant performance to win the Bronze medal in the Gu15 C.Ship and led the Kilkenny Team to the Gold medals.  In the Bu11 race David O’Carroll ran an excellent race to finish 14th and won silver with the Kilkenny team that finished second.  The Bu15 squad had a great day with Cormac Buggy 16th Edward Murphy 23rd and Sean O’Neill 24th all scored on the Kilkenny team that won silver medals.   All three along with Evan Foley 32nd and Marcus Hogan were on the club team that won the Bronze medals. Other good performances were had by Keith Flavin 17th and Seppi Lysaght 32nd in Bu17, Shawn McCormack 16th and Shane Noonan 22nd in Bu19, Joanna Morrissey 25th in Gu17, Bella Lysaght 43rd in Gu15, Aoife Naddy ,Aoife O’Carroll, Christine O’Donnell, Kate Drennan and Claire Farrell in Gu13.  Lyndon Barcoe 40th and Tom Brennan 44th in Mens Intermediate.

BIG 10KM WIN FOR TOMMY EVANS

Tommy Evans had a great return to form to win the Camlough 10km road race in Camlough Co Down on Sunday 7th November over a very hilly course he won in an excellent time of 31m 42secs.

EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES IN MULLINGAR

The club had some excellent performances at the 1st stage of the Leinster Cross Country Championships at Belvedere House Mullingar on Sunday 24th October.  Athletes won 13 medals in all, 5 individual and 8 team. Ruth Kennedy was first into action and she turned in a great performance to win 4th place medal in the Gu12 race and also won gold with the Kilkenny County Team.   David O’Carroll running in his 1st Leinster Championship finished an excellent 14th in the Bu12 race and helped the Kilkenny Team to bronze medals Sean Grace finished in 92nd place.   Rebecca Kennedy emulated her sister Ruth by also finishing 4th in the Gu14 race and led the Kilkenny Team to the Gold medals.  Cormac Buggy ran a great race to finish 7th in the Bu14 race and won a silver medal with the Kilkenny Team that finished 2nd.
The Bu16 race saw Connor O’Carroll finish in 21st place and Sean O’Neill not far behind in 27th place and both were on the Kilkenny Team that won silver medals.  Edward Murphy also had a good run to finish in 40th place.  Mary Ellen Doyle suffering with a back injury showed great determination to finish 6th in the Gu18 race and with Joanna Morrissey having her best race ever finishing 14th both won Gold medals with the Kilkenny County Team. Shawn McCormack had an excellent run to finish 12th in the Bu18 C.Ship and Seppi Lysaght just home from Germany finished 27th.  Bella Lysaght finished 31st in the Gu16 race.
In the Mens Novice C.Ship Simon O’Dwyer despite a fall at the start had a great run to finish 24th and Lyndon Barcoe was 62nd both scored on the Kilkenny team that finished 4th . In the Masters men race Denis Cormack finished 67th and Marty Kelly was 83rd.
Athletes who finished in the top 12 won their places on the Leinster Teams for the All Ireland Championships to be held in Grensha Grounds Oak Grove College  Derry on Sunday 28th  November and also with the Kilkenny Gu12/14/18 and Bu12/14/16 Teams.

GOOD RUNS IN DUBLIN MARATHON

Four of our senior men took part in the Dublin Marathon on Monday 25th  October.  The top performer was Tom Brennan who completed the 26 mile course in a very good time of 2hrs 58mins 23secs.  Gary Farrell ran 3hrs 5mins 41secs.  Mick Walsh finished in a time of 3hrs 32mins 3secs and Fergal Foley completed the course in 3hrs 38mins.

FIVE INDIVIDUAL AND ONE TEAM GOLD AT KILKENNY CROSS COUNTRY

The Club had 5 individual winners and 1 team gold at the 2nd Stage of the Kilkenny Cross Country Championships held in Castlecomer on Sunday 10th October.  Ruth Kennedy put in a great performance to win the Gu11 title, her sister Rebecca won the Gu15 title running away from the opposition to win by about 150metres to add to her win in the Gu14 C’Ship last week.  Mary Ellen Doyle was some 100 metres clear in the Gu17 race when she was directed the wrong course by the stewards but was declared the race winner, she also won the Gu18 race last week. Shawn McCormack had a clear cut win in the Bu19 race finishing well clear of his team mate Shane Noonan in 2nd place.
David Farrell was in great form in winning the Masters Men over 45 gold and with support from Muiris Bric in 4th and Denis Cormack 6th the club won the silver medals. The Boys u15 team won team gold Connor O’Carroll had a great run to win the bronze just ahead of Cormac Buggy in 4th Sean O’Neill finished an excellent 5th Evan Foley running his 1st championship race finished 9th Edward Murphy was 14th and Dusan Rabat was 21st. The Masters Men 045 ‘B’ team took bronze with Mick Walsh 7th Toddy Farrell 9th and Marty Kelly 11th. Rose Kennedy finished a close 4th in the Gu17 race. Medal winners included Rose Prendergast 7th in Gu7, Patrick Langton 4th and Eoin O’Neill 12th in Bu7, Sarah O’Neill 5th in Gu9, Gavin Manning 8th and Felix Lysaght 10th in Bu9.

WINS FOR KENNEDY, DOYLE AND DEEGAN AT KILKENNY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Club had three individual winners at the 1st stage of the Kilkenny Cross Country Championships at Ballycurran Cross Tullogher on Sunday 3rd October.  Rebecca Kennedy was a very impressive winner of the G u14 race.  In front from the start she was over 150metres clear at the finish.  Mary Ellen Doyle also had a clear cut win in the Gu18 race racing away over the final 1000m. Paul Deegan was an impressive winner of the Masters Men 040 title and led the team to gold medals.   He was ably assisted by David Farrell in 3rd place, Denis Cormack 6th and Marty Kelly in 9th.
Silver ind. medals were won by Ruth Kennedy in Gu12, Cormac Buggy in Bu14, Rose Kennedy in Gu16 and John Murphy in Bu18.  3rd place medals were won by Shawn McCormack in Bu18.   Keith Flavin won bronze in Bu16 after a great battle with team mates Sean O’Neill who was 4th and Connor O’Carroll in 5th and with Edward Murphy 12th the Team won the Gold medals.  Brian McCormack was a good 4th in Bu18 race. The Gu14 team finished 5th Rebecca Kennedy was 1st Christine O’Donnell 18th Aoife Naddy 19th and Claire Farrell 20th.  Medal winners in Bu8 were Brogan McAviney 4th Luke Doyle 11th and Pauric Naddy 14th.  Eve O’Dwyer after a poor start finished 7th in Gu8, Sarah O’Neill 19th and Rachel Doyle 32nd competed in Gu10.  Gavin Manning 11th and Luke O’Dwyer 20th were the flag bearers in Bu10.  Sean Grace showed huge improvement to finish 9th in Bu12 with Jamie Hogan 20th.  Bella Lysaght finished an excellent 6th in Gu16 with Aimee Morrissey 10th Joanna Morrissey ran well to finish 6th in Gu18.
GOOD RESULTS AT KILMACOW CROSS COUNTRY
Second place finishes were had by Rebecca Kennedy in Gu14 and Rose Kennedy in Gu16 at the St Senans Kilmacow open cross country  on Sunday 26th September.  Also in excellent form were Cormac Buggy 3rd in Bu14, Eve O’Dwyer in Gu8 and Brogan McAviney in Bu9.  4th place finishes were had by Felix Lysaght in Bu8 and Shawn McCormack in Bu18.  Kevin Fenlon Finished 5th in Senior Mens Race and led the team to 3rd place he was ably assisted by Lyndon Barcoe 15th Muiris Bric 17th and Denis Cormack 20th.  Ruth Kennedy finished 5th in Gu12. Other medal winners were Rose Prendergast Gu8, lisa Prendergast Gu9, Conor Cleere Bu9, Gavin Manning Bu9, Pauric Naddy Bu8.

PAUL DEEGAN WINS 10KM IN KILSHEELAN

Paul Deegan was an excellent winner of the Kilsheelan  10k in a time of 33m 28s

TOMMY EVANS RETURNS TO FORM

Tommy Evans showed a return to form with an excellent 2nd in the Blessington Lakes 10km on Saturday 25th September in a good time of 32m 12s.

SCHOOLS MULTI EVENTS

Rebecca Kennedy finished 8th in the All Ireland Schools Junior multi events finals held in Santry Stadium on Saturday 25th September with a total of 2456pts.  It included a new personal best leap of 1m44cm in the High Jump.  In the intermediate event her sister Rose finished 9th with a total of 2243pts.

GOOD RUN BY NIALL SHEEHAN

Niall Sheehan had an excellent run to finish 9th in the All Ireland Half Marathon Championship held at Monivea Crettyard on Sunday 5th September in this his first attempt at the distance.   Niall covered the distance in a time of 72m 19s.   He was well supported by Simon O’Dwyer who finished 43rd in a time of 80m 25s with James Barcoe just behind in 46th place in a time of 81m 11s.  Thomas Brennan finished 57th in a time of 84m 51s, Lyndon Barcoe finished 119th in a time of 96m 13s, Mick Walsh was 135th in a time of 99m 26s and Denis Cormack was 161st in 108m 18s.  The team finished 5th in an overall time of 233m 55s.

PAUL DEEGAN 9TH IN FERNS

Paul Deegan travelled to Ferns Co Wexford on Saturday last 4th September and finished 9th in the Mick Murphy 4mile Road Race in a time of 21m 46s and was 3rd in the over 40 grade.
JOHN MURPHY ON IRISH TEAM
John Murphy has been selected on the Irish under 18 Team for the British & Irish Mountain Running Championships to be held at Glendalough Co Wicklow on Sunday 19th September.   To win his place on the team John recently finished 3rd in the Irish Trial which was held at Crone Wood also in Co Wicklow.

KENNEDYS WIN GOLD AT MULTI EVENTS

The Kennedy sisters Rebecca under 14 and Rose under 16 both won gold at the Leinster Multi Events Championships held in Navan on Sunday 29th August.   Rebecca won her event with a points total of 2854pts for the five events of 75m Hurdles,  long Jump,  High Jump,  Shot and 800m.   Rose had a total of 2844pts.   Ann Doyle won silver in the Senior Womens event with a total of 2532pts.  Bella Lysaght finished 5th in the girls under 15 event, Evan Foley finished 6th in the Bu15 event, Albrecht Plettenburg finished 5th in the Bu16 event and Sophie Parkinson finished 7th in Gu17 .

EXCELLENT RUN FOR JOHN MURPHY

John Murphy had a brilliant run to finish 8th in the Tinryland Open Road Race on Saturday 28th August.   John finished in a time of 21m 21s to win the Junior Prize.   Paul Deegan had an excellent run also in finishing 12th to win the over 40 section.   Shawn McCormack was 4th junior to finish in 35th place.   Denis Cormack finished 56th and Mick Walsh was 75th.  In the juvenile race with boys & girls running together Cormac Buggy was 3rd Ruth Kennedy 10th and Sean Grace 26th.

ROBBIE MAGEE BACK TO HIS BEST

Robbie Magee showed a great return to form with a 2nd  place finish in the Rusty Scanlon 10km road race in Kilkenny on Friday 27th of August there was also good performances by Jimmy Barcoe in 4th place Gary Farrell 10th Lyndon Barcoe 12th and Mick Walsh.

THREE GOLD AT MASTERS ALL IRELAND TRACK & FIELD

The Club won three gold medals at the All Ireland Masters Track & Field C’Ships in Tullamore on Sunday 15th August.  John Lennon making a welcome return to competition had a great win in the over 55 5km walk.   Pat Mahon had an excellent jump of 5m50 to win the over 50 Long Jump.   John Gorman won gold in the over 70 200m and also won silver in both 100m and 400m.   Mick Kelly finished 4th in the 035 1500m and Denis Cormack finished 8th in the 045 1500m.

FOURTH PLACE FOR PAUL DEEGAN.

Paul Deegan running in his first race since December finished a good 4th in the St Abbans 7km road race on Friday 20th August. Lyndon Barcoe ran well to finish 15th and Denis Cormack was 1st over 45 finishing in 22nd place.

SOPHIE FINISHES 8TH IN BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sophie Parkinson finished 8th in the u17 Discus at the British AAA Track & Field C’Ships in Bedford England on Saturday 21st August.  Sophie was a member of the Athletics Ireland Team.

SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL BRONZE FOR SOPHIE

Sophie Parkinson competing with the Irish Schools Athletics Team turned in the performance of her life to win the bronze medal in the Discus at the International Schools Track & Field meet in Scotstoun Stadium Glasgow on Saturday last the 17th July.  Sophie’s best throw of 35m 73cm came in the first round and was a new personal best performance which saw her finish 3rd behind the two English girls and ahead of the Welsh and Scottish competitors.  Also competing with the Irish team was Diarmuid Hickey who finished 7th in the Shot his best throw of 13m 30cm was also a personal best.

DANESFORT 10KM

Tommy Evans had a good win in the Danesfort 10km race on Saturday the 17th July with Kevin Fenlon finishing 2nd and Lyndon Barcoe 10th.

DANESFORT HALF MARATHON

Chris O’Neill had an easy win in the Danesfort Half Marathon also held on Saturday 17th July.

PILTOWN 10KM

Pat Kavanagh finished 10th in the Piltown 10km held on Friday 16th July in a time of 36m 06s with Robbie Magee 11th in 36m 32s and Jimmy Barcoe 23rd in 37m 35s.

TOMMY EVANS 3RD IN  BALLYTORE

Tommy Evans Finished 3rd in the Ballytore 8km Road Race on Friday 23rd of July

GOLD & TWO BRONZE IN ALL IRELAND TRACK & FIELD

Sophie Parkinson rounded off a great season with a brilliant performance to win the Gold Medal in the Girls u17 Shot at the All Ireland Championships in Tullamore On Saturday 24th July with a Putt of 11m 55cm.  Diarmuid Hickey was also in great form winning Bronze in both Shot & Discus in Bu17.  His Putt in the shot was 13m 18cm and in the Discus 34m 64cm.
Mary Ellen Doyle finished 4th in the Gu17 1500m in a time of 5m 01.94s.  Cormac Buggy  finished =7th in the Bu14 1500m in a time of 4m 50.84s a new personal best. Shawn McCormack finished 12th in the Bu18 1500m in a time of 4m 25.56s.

ALL IRELAND SILVER FOR SEAN O’NEILL

Sean O’Neill won a silver medal with the Kilkenny Bu15 4×100 relay team at the All Ireland Relay held in Tullamore on Sunday 25th July.

GOOD RESULTS AT ‘B’ ALL IRELANDS

Sinead Naddy won the silver medal in the Gu15 High Jump at the ‘B’ All Ireland Track & Field Championships held in Tullamore on Sunday 1st  August.  Sinead’s best jump of 1m 33cm was the same height as the winner but won the silver on countback.  Keith Flavin won a bronze medal in the Bu16 800m in a time of 2m28.81s. In the All Ireland Senior Womens Pentathlon held in conjunction Ann Doyle finished 5th with a score of 3065pts.

JOHN MURPHY 3RD IN MOUNTAIN RUNNING TRIAL

John Murphy had an excellent run to finish 3rd in the Junior Mens Trial Race held to pick the team for the upcoming World Mountain Running Championships to be held in Glendalough Wicklow in September next, so its finger crossed for the next couple of weeks till the team is announced.

KILMORE 5K WIN FOR KEVIN FENLON

Kevin Fenlon had a great win in the  Kilmore Quay Festival 5km Road Race on Saturday evening last the 10th  July.  Five of our Senior Men travelled to the race and came away with the major share of the prizes.  Kevin was about 40 metres behind the leaders starting the final 800m but a great sprint finish saw him get ahead in the final strides and lead the team to first place,  he got great support from Chris O’Neill who finished 6th Simon O’Dwyer finished an excellent 11th and Tom Brennan completed the team in 14th place. Denis Cormack finished in 25th place and was 1st over 45 to finish.

9TH PLACE FINISH FOR NIALL SHEEHAN
Niall Sheehan had an excellent run to finish 9th in the 5000m at the All Ireland Senior Track & Field championships held in Santry Stadium on Saturday and Sunday 10th & 11th July.  Ann Doyle finished 8th in her heat in the 800m.
